Executive Director

The Site Director provides expertise, oversight, training, and leadership for all staff members at the Child Center and ensures that operations are in compliance with all funding sources and regulatory agencies.

The Site Director ensures that the center is providing high-quality, relationship-based, inclusive services to all children and families in the center.  Through direct supervision of all non-teaching staff, including the education/inclusion specialists, family and health advocates, and other administrative staff, the Site Director ensures that the center is implementing evidence-based instructional practices, engaging families, maintaining a healthy and safe environment, and achieving full enrollment.

The Site Director supports a plan for intensive and individualized professional development for all staff members that results in exemplary teacher-child interactions, instructional quality, and retention of staff.

Planning and Program Services:

  • Facilitate enrollment and recruitment in collaboration with the Head Start/Early Head Start Team to ensure that the center achieves and maintains full enrollment.
  • Facilitate decision-making to coordinate staff schedules, recruit and hire qualified staff, and arrange for substitutes.
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director to develop and update an annual parent handbook that includes program policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director to review and develop service/management plans and implement systems to ensure consistent, high quality services at all centers in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Act, ExceleRate, NAEYC, DCFS licensing, and all regulatory agencies.
  • Leadership Team, ensuring that trainings are planned that meet the interests and needs of GM staff.
  • Participate in the formation of linkages with community organizations to ensure access to resources for children, families, and staff.
  • Participate in the self-assessment process and strategic planning.

Record Keeping, Reporting and Communication:

  • Assist in the development and monitor implementation of a system to ensure that all enrollment, education, disabilities, health, and family information is entered into COPA and Teaching Strategies GOLD in a timely manner.
  • Complete and submit all required agency and funder reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Address all parental questions, concerns and complaints regarding safety, staff members, curriculum, philosophy and structure.
  • Work with the center leadership to establish a collaborative and transparent center culture that emphasizes the importance of direct conflict resolution.
  • Develop and implement systems for regular, ongoing communication with staff and families.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in regularly scheduled content area, team, director, and other meetings.
  • Participate in agency sponsored events, committees and meetings.


Human Resources:

  • Implement reflective and relationship-based practices.
    Supervise and provide ongoing technical support to the teachers, administrative staff, and support staff.
  • Facilitate the completion of the on-boarding training orientation schedule for new staff in collaboration with the Head Start/Early Head Start Leadership Team.
  • Implement plan for creating and tracking meaningful individualized professional development plans and work with HR to ensure that all staff have PD plans.
  • Implement plan for evaluating staff according to the Easterseals and Head Start/Early Head Start policies and procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with all direct reports in order to identify and encourage staff initiative and to address potential concerns or problems at an early stage, both individually and through regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise qualified staff in accordance with licensing, accreditation, and funding requirements.
  • Enforce all agency policies, practices, and directives.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or another related field.

Experience Required:

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Head Start/Early Head Start.
  • Must have or be able to obtain Illinois Director’s Credential Level II.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working with children and their families.

Required Knowledge:

  • Obtain certification as a CLASS-reliable observer within 1 year.

Responsible for contributing to the development of the overall agency and center educational plan and for the classroom implementation of the center plan that is geared to meet the needs of each individual child enrolled in the program in accordance with NAEYC, Head Start Performance Standards

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Creative Curriculum.  Ability to utilize Creative Curriculum system.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Teaching Strategies GOLD.  Ability to utilize Teaching Strategies GOLD online system.
  • Leads classroom team in creating a developmentally appropriate environment
  • Supports the quality of the classroom by working in partnership with other classroom staff.
  • Attend and/or complete required and recommended trainings.
  • Attend required and recommended meetings.
    Complete an ongoing professional development plan.
  • Support agency’s School Readiness goals.
  • Supervises and provides guidance other classroom personnel
  • Researches new curriculum methods and reinforcement materials
  • Shares responsibility for cleaning up after all classroom activities. Assumes over-all responsibility for proper care of classroom equipment and supplies
  • Recommends maintenance and repairs as needed in the classroom to maintain safety compliance.
  • Generate and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
  • Utilize child outcome data to guide lesson planning and developmentally appropriate activities
  • Utilizes Individual Educational Plan (IEP) and/or Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) to support children with disabilities.
  • Travel to other classrooms and/or sites, as needed, to serve as the teacher or teacher assist.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education (ECE) or Child Development (CD) Bachelor’s degree in another related field with at least 30 hours in ECE. Associates degree in ECE or Child Development (CD) will be considered. Infant Toddler Coursework Required, Infant Toddler Credential Preferred.

Experience Required:

  • Experience as a teacher in an early childhood classroom.

Required Knowledge:

  • MS Office.

Vehicle/Transportation Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Auto insurance.
  • Reliable vehicle.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Bilingual skills may be required or preferred based on the needs of the program.

Kitchen Manager

Director and/or Executive Director

  • Ensure and maintain well-balanced meals
  • Ensure that meals contain all 4-food groups (meat & vegetables, bread & cereals, fruits and dairy products)
  • Ensure all foods are fresh and prepared daily
  • Ensure all foods are served at their appropriate temperature
  • Ensure all foods are not overcooked and under cooked
  • Ensure expiration dates are valid before purchasing and before using any food
  • Count attendance daily of each room to determine correct set-up
  • Grocery shop as needed for bulk purchases of food, cleaning supplies, fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Ensure and maintain healthy environment
  • Ensure the kitchen cleaned and sanitized daily and in between meal times
  • Ensure the 3 compartment kitchen sink is washed, rinsed and sanitized with bleach and water solution daily
  • Ensure all dishes and utensils are air dried to minimize bacteria and germs
  • Ensure the refrigerator is cleaned daily
  • Ensure all food in the refrigerator is labeled with its contents and expiration date.
  • Maintain a clean and neat appearance
  • Keep uniform clean and neat, must wear hair net at all times
  • Use of plastic gloves are required when handling all food

Education/Certification:

  • State of Illinois Food Protection Manager Certification.
  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience Required:

  • Experience working in food service environment
